Located just a block from the picturesque lake, this hostel is surrounded by a variety of restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. the bathrooms are well-maintained and spotless, ensuring a pleasant experience. the friendly staff goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
It would be even better if they had more bathroom facilities to accommodate the number of guests.

The value for money at Central Backpackers was excellent. The room was cozy and comfortable, and the location was perfect, just a short walk from the lake and close to all the amenities. The staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

The location and staff were great, with easy access to restaurants and shops. The common areas were clean and cozy, providing a welcoming atmosphere. The kitchen was well-equipped, allowing multiple groups to cook at the same time without any issues. the price was affordable and provided good value for money during the Christmas season.
The beds were uncomfortable, with springs that could be felt throughout the night. The walls were too thin, making it practically impossible to get a peaceful night's sleep.

This hostel exceeded all expectations! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. The kitchen was a dream with top-notch facilities, and the bathrooms were spotless. The beds were incredibly comfy, and the twin rooms had plenty of space. The location was perfect, just a short walk to amazing restaurants and the beautiful lakeside. The laundry facilities, including a drying room, were a lifesaver. Free wi-fi, parking, and wheelchair access made everything so convenient. We loved hanging out in the cozy shared living spaces, playing board games and watching TV. The picnic area was a nice touch too. With 24-hour security and a strict no-smoking policy, we felt safe and comfortable throughout our stay. This hostel is a hidden gem in a stunning location!

The location of the hostel is ideal, just one block away from the town center and the beautiful lakeside. Guests mentioned that there was plenty of parking available and restaurants within a 5-minute walking distance. the staff at the hostel were highly praised for their friendliness and cleanliness. the communal kitchen was large, spotless, and well-equipped, making it convenient for cooking and cleaning up. the shared facilities, such as the showers, were always clean and the wifi was strong.
The bathroom facilities may be insufficient, as there are only one bathroom for each gender and one unisex disabled bathroom shared between many rooms.

Despite the negatives, there were a few positive aspects of our stay. the hostel had a friendly and welcoming owner who provided us with valuable advice on things to do in the area. the property was located conveniently close to the center of town and the beautiful lake, making it easy to explore Te Anau. Lastly, the hostel had sufficient parking, which was a plus for us as we were traveling with our own vehicle.
Our stay at this hostel fell short of our expectations. the power outlets in the dorm room were not suitable for a hostel setting.

I can't praise Central Backpackers enough - great value for money, comfy rooms, and a fantastic location near the town centre and the lake. The staff were super friendly and gave us insider tips for exploring Milford Sound.
Breakfast delights - it would have been better to have more than one toilet and shower for females, and the lack of insulation in the women's bathroom made it freezing. But overall, it was a minor inconvenience.
